D/2 Danco2 Training Company

As an outgrowth of the instruction and training program and to accommodate those who are not accomplished enough to enter the professional company, Philadanco has developed the apprentice training company so that young people on the cusp of professional careers could have a venue in which to perform. The company conducts classes and performs in ‘Danco on Danco' as well as filling those requests for Philadanco by smaller organizations. The Artistic Director for D/2 (Danco2) is Donald T. Lunsford II who appeared with Philadanco for many years and is a devoted teacher, instructor and mentor to the young dancers in D/2 (Danco2).

Outreach and Mentorship

Philadanco's commitment to the needs of the dance community including the artists who create it and audiences alike have lead the company to accept a leadership role and successfully undertake such projects as housing for dancers within the Philadanco community, six units within walking distance of the company headquarters provide safe, attractive units at modest cost.

We also have created outreach efforts to diversify our audiences by focusing attention on increased attendance by members of the African American, Latino, Asian and Jewish communities as well as working to develop partnerships which encourage senior citizens and young people to attend concerts. The company also serves as mentor to small and emerging companies and independent artists. We participate in the ongoing dialogue about the future of dance in trying economic and political times.
