Dance Review: Philadanco dance show joyous, haunting, dazzling

To kick off its second season, the Reading Area Community College’s Miller Center for the Arts presented Philadanco — the Philadelphia Dance Company.
Directed by founder Joan Myers Brown, Philadanco last performed in Berks County four years ago, so it was high time for them to come back. (I’d be delighted to have them here every year.)


Their program Saturday was divided into two very different halves: the first joyous and full of light, the second dark, somber and haunting. Both featured the kind of dancing for which this company is known — powerful, courageous, exuberant and technically flawless. In other words, dancing that makes you want to cheer — which is exactly what the audience did, often.
